Dog coat care at home, without filling the room
Loose hair on the floor is housework. This is not veterinary advice.
Before you switch on a clipper, brush with the lie of the coat and lift the loose top hair. Many sessions need no blade after that, only the vacuum running beside you.
When the coat has grown long, fit a guard on the clipper. The guard keeps space above the skin. Move slowly and only where you mean to shorten. A bare blade does not belong on thin or irritated skin.
Stop when the animal stands up or moves away. Short rounds on several days work better than one long struggle. Cats often tolerate only the soft brush head and a short pass.
The vacuum picks up what the brush releases. It does not empty a whole sofa and it does not treat skin. If the skin is red, a spot is open, or you are unsure, leave the clipper and ask a veterinary surgeon. We do not arrange that contact.
